Rio Ferdinand Warns Lingard Against Joining This Club – The Fans Won’t Accept You
Manchester United legend, Rio Ferdinand has warned midfielder Jesse Lingard not to even consider joining Arsenal, insisting Gunners fans will not accept the England International.
He warned the player to go ‘nowhere near’ the Emirates Stadium this summer, advising him to stay at West Ham instead.
Lingard is on loan to West Ham from Manchester United and there are rumours linking him with Arsenal, Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and even West Ham, who are trying to sign him permanently.
But Ferdinand, a former United skipper, believes Arsenal supporters would not accept Lingard at the club given his history with the fanbase.
The England midfielder has scored eight goals and provided three assists in nine appearances for West Ham.
Arsenal want to sign him particularly as there are doubts over Martin Odegaard’s long-term future at the Emirates.
Asked about Arsenal’s interest in Lingard, Ferdinand told FIVE YouTube channel:
“Yeah but you know what, they [Arsenal fans] wouldn’t have him there.
“The way he moonwalked off that pitch once, they wouldn’t have it. The fans would rip the place apart. He disrespected the Emirates in a way that hadn’t been seen.
“Listen West Ham will have a fight to get him by the way because I think other teams are going to be like: ‘Listen, we want him!’
“He’s not going to go to Arsenal over West Ham, obviously but there will be other teams. He ain’t going nowhere near Arsenal.”
