Maritime workers in Bayelsa State have renewed calls for a proper policing of the entire waterways of the state to ensure the safety of lives and property plying the routes.
The chairman of the Bayelsa State Maritime Workers Union, Comrade Ogoniba Ipigansi stated this in a statement confirming the Saturday attack on passenger boat in Southern Ijaw waterways.
The statement obtained by our man, Solomon Unuwoma, notes that the pirates attack the Augusto Marine 115 Horse Power speed boat laden with eight passengers en route Swali Market waterfront from Lobia.
It says the pirates clampdown on the boat near Gbanraun Junction after Kokologbene Community in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area and carted away with both the T19 Fibre boat and 115 Horse Power engine.
