Teddy Pabloo:-there is only three best words to describe my music and what I represents. TRUTH, LOVE and REALITY
The Hip Hop culture in Nigeria is picking up steam. Genres like Drill, Hip Hop, Cloud Rap, Emo have been rising up the charts with songs like “Zoom” by cheque, “loose guard” by legendary styles and “Because I no get money” by whazee becoming Hit songs. Hip Hop has seemingly found its spark and a lot of young acts taking on the culture, finding their niche and making a name for themselves. Among them is “TEDDY PABLOO”.
Teddy is a fast rising act from the southern part of Nigeria who is steadily making a name for himself. He describes himself as a music artiste, rapper, songwriter, performing act and a Story teller. While his genre of Music may not be unique, his music is anything familiar. Teddy Pabloo’s music is distinct and pristine.
His music even though is influenced by legends like 2pac, his style is unique, his flows are polished and his cadences are top-notch.
Teddy tells us he has been making music since he was 12 and started recording in 2014, but released his debut single in 2020. When we asked why he took so long to release music he says “Men it’s crazy the country we living in, rappers career are the most extreme travails “.
Teddy’s music is not mediocre in any way, while the average Nigerian artiste dumps lyricism for vibes, Teddy Is not about that style, with his music Teddy seeks to tell his truth and reality. He describes his debut single “SMALL CIRCLE” as an introduction to his conscious reality storytelling and forthcoming EP, he says “Small circle explores the everyday reality of life which is a sneak peek into my Forthcoming EP.”
While music is a livelihood for many, for acts like teddy he describes it as a tool.
He says “for me music means more than music to me, it is my spiritual tool, and there is only three best words to describe my music and what I represent. TRUTH, LOVE and REALITY. For teddy, it’s not all about the bars, it’s the TRUTH in those bars.
My art and style is inspired firstly from life which is my first tutor, my spiritual faith and love, and from everyday truth and struggle of a black man from a destitute environment”.
Inspired by gems like 2pac shakur, Andre 3000, Ermias Asghedom and Kendrick Lamar, Teddy says they brought ideas and visions that seems to resonate with his.
Teddy is a visionary, his goals are long term, he tells me he plans to be in the industry for a long time. While his music may appeal to a niche part of the industry, Teddy’s music is mainstream material. Acts like teddy is what the industry needs at this point in time, the amount of conscious musicians have reduced significantly as everyone seems to be after commercial success which is not a bad thing, but only few stay true to their artistry in pursuit of that success. While this writer believes our industry is accommodating.
Teddy’s music is TRUTH and acts like teddy are needed to speak to truth.
Teddy Pabloo debut EP arrives very soon, this writer can not wait to hear what this fast rising superstar has to say and offer. He says he is taking his time to work on the tape.
